Swarnakumari Debi (1856-1932) was Tagore's elder sister. The contemporary paper in those days Hindoo Patriot wrote that "never before in bengal did a lady writer of such real power and abilities appear and shed such a lustre on the literature of her country". Her success is all branches of literature- poetry, novel, drama, essay, ballads and literary criticism was remarkable. A popular and important writer in her time, there is a lot to admire in her works.
